Abstract
In pediatric non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), early initiation of chemotherapy is of utmost importance for prognosis. This study aims to determine the frequency of NHL presentation in our setting and the probability of response to the chemotherapeutic treatment used at that time.
A retrospective analysis was conducted of 57 patients diagnosed with NHL at SOLCA, Guayaquil, between 1980 and 1990. Ten patients who did not receive treatment after abandoning medical care following diagnosis were excluded from the treatment analysis. However, they were included in the analysis of age, sex, stage, histopathological classification, and symptoms.
Sixty-eight percent of the patients were lost to follow-up after discontinuing treatment. Thirteen percent died from infection during chemotherapy, and 19 % of the children remained disease-free until the end of the study.
